CARDIO-TECH DAY TOUR
A launch to the 67th Annual Conference of the Israel Heart Society, the CARDIO-TECH DAY TOUR is an opportunity for attendees to experience Israeli centres of medical tech development and innovation. The tour opens at Philips’ Innovation Centre where an exclusive look at facilities will present the next level of technological invention.
The tour then travels to Pluristem a medical-product development company currently leading research advances with placenta-based cell therapy products. Finally the day closes with an insightful meet-and-greet with Prof. Lior Gepstein, of the Cardiology Department at Rambam Health Care Campus and the Cardiac Research Laboratory at the Technion, and creator of Novel Treatments for Heart Disease.
An Epicentre of Medical Development
The 67th Annual Conference of the Israel Heart Society In association with the Israel Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery presents Cardiology on the Cusp: A New Generation of Innovation. Recent breakthroughs in Israeli cardiovascular biotechnologies serve as a global model for heart innovation, as hundreds of biotechnology companies and labs continue to establish themselves across Israel.
To maximise the benefits of hosting the conference in Israel, attendees are also invited to a Cardio-Tech Day Tour. Held on October 18 (prior to the conference opening on October 19), the tour is a unique opportunity for medical professionals and specialists to network, and meet the minds behind leading achievements in cardiovascular innovation.
Philips’ Innovation Center
The Cardio-Tech Day Tour begins at the Philips’ Innovation Center in Haifa, for an exclusive visit through local innovation roads. An Israeli born operation since 1948, in 2000 global Philips acquired of the former CT division of Elscint and has since increased its focus in healthcare R&D and manufacturing activity.
In 2016 Philips launched a cloud-based project in Israel that deals with mapping and processing genomic information, which could be a revolutionary contribution to cancer treatment. In 2018 Philips expanded its Image Guided Therapy Portfolio with the acquisition of ‘EPD Solutions’, which focuses on Image Guided Therapy procedures for cardiac arrhythmias (the R&D of EPD is based in Israel). Pluristem

Prof. Lior Gepstein
For the grand finale, the tour will conclude with a meet and greet with Prof. Lior Gepstein, one of the world’s most renowned and fascinating researchers. Prof. Gepstein’s research activities focus on basic and clinical electrophysiology, stem cell biology, studying of inherited cardiac disorders, optogenetics, and development of novel gene and cell-based treatment strategies for cardiac disorders.
A MD/PhD graduate of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Prof. Dr. Gepstein currently serves as the director of the Cardiology Department at Rambam Health Care Campus and is Head of the Cardiac Research Laboratory at the Technion. Dr Gepstein’s group was among the pioneers in developing unique cardiomyocyte differentiation strategies from human pluripotent stem cells and in using these cells for the emerging fields of cardiovascular regenerative and precision medicine.
